Early this morning at 12:35am, Good Will and mutual aid were alerted to the unit block of Yorktown Road in the Pennwood community for a House Fire. Engine 18 and Deputy Chief 18 immediately responded. Ladder 28 and Engine 18 arrived to find smoke showing from a 2 story single family, and a patient in the front yard. Engine 18 stretched a line and a fire in the kitchen was located. All searches were negative, and the fire was held to the room of origin. EMS crews assisted the resident. DC18 held the New Castle Command.
This resident had recently purchased smoke detectors, and had not yet installed them. This fire could have been disastrous if not located early. Good Will Firefighters installed the smoke detectors before leaving the home. Check your homes smoke detectors twice per year, and have a home evacuation plan.
